Founder Story: Why I Created Online Dojo Academy

Some of the most valuable lessons in my life were learned through training.

Long before I became an educator, researcher, or mentor, I was a young martial arts student learning traditional Kung Fu. In elementary school, I began training under a martial arts master whose teachings focused on Xinyi Quan, while also exposing students to traditional Tai Chi and Shaolin-based practices.

What began as physical training quickly became something much deeper.

Martial arts taught me discipline, perseverance, humility, and respect. It taught me that meaningful progress is rarely achieved through talent alone, but through consistent effort practiced over time. Most importantly, it showed me that training can transform not only the body, but also the mind and character.

These lessons would continue to guide me throughout my life.

At the age of seventeen, I immigrated to the United States and pursued my education in science, human movement, anatomy, and learning. Over time, I earned a Master's degree in Science and later completed my Doctor of Education at Vanderbilt University.

Along the way, I spent more than a decade working in education and also gained valuable military experience. Although these environments appeared different on the surface, they shared many of the same principles I first encountered through martial arts: discipline, leadership, resilience, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Like many people living in today's fast-paced world, I also faced personal health challenges. Through structured training, intentional lifestyle changes, and a commitment to long-term wellness, I lost more than seventy pounds and developed a deeper understanding of how sustainable transformation actually happens.

The experience reinforced something I had learned years earlier:

The principles found in traditional martial arts extend far beyond self-defense.

They offer a practical framework for developing physical fitness, mental resilience, healthy habits, and lifelong personal growth.

Yet I noticed a growing challenge.

Many people could benefit from these practices, but traditional training is not always accessible. Busy schedules, family responsibilities, geographic limitations, and the intimidation of stepping into a martial arts school can create barriers for those who would otherwise benefit from training.

I began asking a simple question:

How can we preserve the wisdom and effectiveness of traditional martial arts while making it more accessible to modern learners?

That question became the foundation of Online Dojo Academy.

Online Dojo Academy was created to bring the benefits of traditional martial arts training to a wider audience through modern technology, education, and community. The goal is not to replace traditional schools or instructors, but to help more people experience the physical, mental, and personal development benefits that martial arts can provide.

Through guided training programs, educational content, wellness practices, and community engagement, the academy seeks to create a structured pathway for individuals who want to improve their health, develop discipline, build confidence, and continue growing throughout their lives.

Equally important is the belief that meaningful impact happens through collaboration.

As Online Dojo Academy grows, I hope to work alongside martial arts instructors, educators, wellness professionals, healthcare practitioners, researchers, and community organizations who share a common mission: helping people become healthier, stronger, and more capable versions of themselves.

Online Dojo Academy represents the intersection of my lifelong passions for martial arts, education, wellness, leadership, and service.

The training I received as a young student shaped the course of my life. My hope is that by making these practices more accessible and adaptable for modern living, others can discover the same benefits that have guided my own journey.
